While my onions look ok they are not very big. Think its partly because I didn't water them enough in the dry weather but just wondered if other people feed their onions? If so, what with?

    Many thanks

I didn't feed or water mine and they've been huge but it's rained here nearly every day for the past three weeks. Their biggest growth was during a few weeks of hot weather before that.

It could be yours haven't done as well due to lack of water, it isn't necessary to feed them if the soil is prepared before planting with a good fertilzer. I emptied the entire contents of my darlik onto the beds and dug it in, the top layer of soil then retains moisture.

I've just pulled mine up as they were getting quite large and I don't want show onions.I prepare ground as zoomer44 said and don't feed after that.As for watering I dig down to see how dry the soil is and only water if it is dry but I tend to get a good bit of rain. I found starting them off in small pots gives them a good start and they romp away after that.
