Been picking blackberries this afternoon with my mum, and more than i thought we would get if i'm perfectly honest, 9lb 12oz Very good quality, nice and plump. Even found a couple of quid in the glove compartment of the car, so i was able to nip into aldi, and buy some double cream, to have with the blackberry pie i was going to make. As it turned out my mum knocked one up, as she's off on holiday next week, hence why we went today. You truly cannot beat the first blackberry pie of the season. They just taste great, so good that i had to have seconds
I love a good blackberry pick! One of the best things about being a runner is that one of my routes takes me down country lanes and each week I can check on how the blackberries are coming along ready for an afternoon session of picking ready for the freezer over winter. Nothing beats crumble and custard on a cold day. Plus my neighbour makes a rather potent blackberry wine which is good to keep the chills away!
Sadly I haven`t found any that are ripe here in the NW. I love blackberry pie myself so can`t wait to pick them. Enjoy them while you can.
You have spurred me into action, I have been looking at the ripe ones over the fields when dog walking and thinking I must get round to picking some, OH is working late today, so will take a bag out with me this afternoon. Nan x
Nan, hope you find enough to make a pie or crumble. Brought some of the blackberries into work to make a pie for the lads. That will butter them up for when i rosta myself off to go to the football Had a text from my mum about my dad, concerning his disgusting food habits I'm not sure whether to or cry. My idiot father decided to put that awful tinned evapourated milk on the blackberry pie today With news like that i'll need a
I did battle with the brambles at the local park at the weekend - 6kg later I've a dozen jars of bramble jelly and a load of fruit in the freezer to give us a taste of summer in the winter ... Lovely!
Your post made me chuckle Rob re your Dad's liking for evaporated milk. When my family were growing up I used to have to regularly make a peach flan as it was oldest son's favourite, BUT he would only have ........... yes you've guessed it, evaporated milk with it, sometimes I still make it when I know he is due round and have to ensure there is a small tin of em in the cupboard !! Nan x
PS picked some lovely blackberries.
Hi fellow allotmenteers.re the blackberry pie doesnt anybody make apple and blackberry pudding anymore ITS SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!
I have finally found some ripe berries this weekend and have picked 3 pounds in 2 short times picking them.
