strawberries

    good morning all,please could someone tell me whats happening to my strawberries as they have flowered but seem to be taking so long to turn to fruit,i bought the plants this year and have looked after them well,so far iv`e only had half a dozen fruits the others well ?, any advice would be gratefully appreciated regards chris

    If its the 1st year of fruiting you should of taken all the flowers of and not let them fruit .This is done to put all the energy in the plant for next year.But no need to worrie just take all the rest of the flowers off and give the plants a good mulch of garden compost or leaf mould and next year enjoy the fruits.

    I always let my new strawberries produce fruit in their first year and have no problems in subsequent years. The problem is more likely to be a shortage of sun recently, which always slows down the ripening process.
    It is more useful to take off any runners in the first year.
