This year the potatoes, first early Swift & second earlies Bambino & International Kidney have just fallen apart & become waterlogged. As they are salad type potatoes why id this happening? They are behaving like mashing main crops & are ruining our meals, mash doesn't go too well with salad somehow.
Any one with the same problem/suggestions?
Yep! I've the same problem. My first earlies collapsed on cooking and so are my second earlies (Romano). No idea why, they did the same last year and were different varieties. They taste lovely with lots of butter on them though!
New potatoes that you grow yourself do not need boiling as long. Better still, microwave them in a covered container. I have not boiled potatoes for many years, as much of the flavour and goodness is thrown away with the water.
I've steamed my first and second earlies in a metal colander over a pan of boiling water rather than boil them in water. It only takes about ten minutes and they have kept their shape and flavour really well.
