I moved to my village in December 2007 and had the foresight to put my name down on the allotment waiting list 6months prior, knowing we would relocate there. I was told at that time that I was 8th on the list.
In November last year I enquired where I was on the list and I had got to 4th!! However the parish council had put in planning applications to transform a field into 10 new plots and of course I would get 4th choice of plot! Great news I thought for a nice long 2010 of growing, tending and reaping.

The planning apps were finally approved in April this year and again, I thought a month or so to build the entrance and road and fence it up and I'd be in ready for June at the latest.

I still hadn't seen anything alter or had any contact so called them to ask when the work would start. This is the very sad bit. The planners had got all grumpy and all change.... A new planning request needs to go in and I'll be very lucky to get any plot this year now!

How very sad that planners and local councils drag their feet on allotments. There seems to be only one group of people eager and that's the plot holders, everyone else seems to take any eternity to make anything happen!

Has anyone got any advice or similar stories that might ease my pain?

If 'those in authority' were to 'pull their digits out' and arise from off their posteriors, well, people would think they could work at this speed as the norm. They have convinced the populus that that is their top speed!

Sadly no joy from this end. I have also been 'tail end Charlie' as well. Just keep plugging away and when you are finally ensconced on your patch, then vent your feelings. Cheers, Tony.

Sorry no advice but lots of sympathy Rob. Hopefully it will be worth waiting for.

You could ask the parish council and the planning office why it was rejected. It could be they forgot to include sheds etc when asking for planning permission. It might be easier to get permission if the land can be restricted for allotments only; it might be restricted in some way already. Parish land is being sold off for housing these days!!
