Once fruiting has finished, cut back the foliage and reduce the watering. Keep the rootstock frost free and plant them out into their new position when you see new growth in the spring. Cheers, Tony.

Chris you are a worrier with those Strawberries! smiley - biggrin

Our local pound shop has big troughs at a teeny price. I'd replant them in something like that if you really want to? Top it up with some muck or homemade compost for boosting them in the spring.

Trim off the old dead growth and leave the smaller, greener leaves. Also, peg down the runners into small pots of compost, don't let them go to waste. Next year you'll have twice the plants, twice the strawberries at no extra cost!

Finally I promise you they will see the winter through outdoors. They're very hardy! Mine were out in -15 last year and this year we got a bumper crop so don't worry about Strawbrries...they're tough as old boots! smiley - laugh

Have to agree with Vixxihibiscus. Mine wintered-over outside in heavy frosts and I didn't protect them, they survived well.

I think they're about 3 years old now so I'm going to pot up the runners and dig all the old ones out.

HI Chris, it might well be worth investing in a strawberry planter. I got one off ebay for £5, its just green tarpaulin but worked pretty well and we had a great harvest this year.
There are much prettier ones availalbe if you want to spend a bit more money. i imagine you are short of space and soil if you are using growbags.

Stawberries are as tough as old boots so dont worry about them until the spring.
Fill your planter up with compost and maybe some water granuals and slow release fertiliser and get ready for some yummy strawbs smiley - smiley

Mine have been in plant pots, troughs and open ground over a few winters. Even the runners that were taken were left out and all survived under 2 foot of snow.

    Chris.

Strawberries are very hardy. Mine survived under a foot of snow last year, from 6 bought plants the previous year I had a patch of 24 new runners, planted out and about 20 planted in a trough which survived the winter after being froze solid and they produced an excellent crop this year.
