Can anyone please advise me on what type of garlic I should be planting for the west of Scotland? Last year's, taken straight from Tesco, had few bulbs and aren't very big although I planted them in the autumn. I would really like some nice big bulbs but am worried about my distance from warmth and sunshine.
Collperson, have a look at this page :-
I tried Porcelain garlic from Really Garlicy, and it did very well for me in Glasgow.
I imagine that your soil is quite sandy which will help with the drainage.
I'd like to give garlic a go next year - I eat enough of the stuff! I'll look out for Porcelain and give that a try.

Thank you so much, everyone. I shall try Porcelain too, and the website was really useful.
Collperson, I wonder if you have heard of Cuillin FM radio broadcasting from Portree in Skye? It perhaps is too far away over the Cuillin Hills, to reach you in Coll. However, there is a programme called the Rural Garden on Saturday,11.00-12.00, discussing some veg and fruit items which you can listen to over the internet. See this page :-
Damn, missed it - and we can't get Skye radio here. But thanks all the same.
