ive just returned from the garden very sad at heart,i have just dug up the last of my 2nd early potatoes (wilja)and now the reality of having to buy potatoes for a few months, not having that lovely flavour and the pleasure of digging them up has now sunk in,to be honest i am lost for words.being a 1st time grower i thought that they would last a lot longer, aahh well i suppose there`s always next year.

Can totally sympathise Chris. Nothing like rooting around and finding those lovely new potatoes under the soil. I've nearly dug all my Charlottes up now but I do have some main crop ones to look forward to. Maybe next year you can grow some main crop spuds to take over when the earlies run out if you've enough space.
Hi Chris,
If growing space is the reason you've not got enough for your needs?
Why not make room by next year growing your spuds in containers (ie 45 gal drums) you'll be amazed the amound you'll get and its a good way of keeping slugs ect off the spuds.
Ive a 3/4 acre allotment and i still use this method.
I have this year grown spuds in large Ikea bag just cut some drainage holes afew stones to help drainage then newspaper, one of my recycle boxes split so use that, flower buckets and large tubs. Each one has given me nice supply and still going.
