Hi everyone,
I have had a very good crop of runner beans. I have some really large beans left on the plant and are too tough to eat. I think you can dry the seeds, do I cut the beans off and put them in the greenhouse, windowsill to dry. Any methods of preserving these seeds to replant for next year will be gratefully received. Some chocolate spot is already spreading on the leaves.

I leave them to dry on the plant until it's withered. I don't think timing is all that crucial. At some point in the winter I remember they're still there, pick them and store them in an envelope. If you leave them too long the pods start popping open and dropping the beans on the ground. Runners are good for seed saving because they don't seem to cross-pollinate as easily as broad beans.

I would disagree with regard cross-pollination. If you grow a white flowered runner bean, from white beans and save the seed, you will get some seeds that are white and others that are not.
n
Can you also save french bean seeds ?? I know I`ll probably be better using seeds I have left from my Dig in seeds I got this year but the info will be helpfull for the future.
