    Hello all

We've got some exciting new things happening on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Gardening website...

First of all I should probably introduce myself! I'm Jen and I'm a new host here on the gardening message boards. Don't worry, Saima and Daisy will still be very much around.

I will be mainly concentrating on the Garden Clinic topic.

The reason for this is we have just launched the new Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Gardening Blog (link below). The blog will be going to great lengths to satisfy your appetite for horticultural inspiration, problem-solving and sheer delight in plants and gardens.

From now on I'll be scouting the Garden Clinic topic for recurring themes and intriguing problems and putting them to our guests and regular writers. And on some occasions asking you to post your questions on specific topics.

The other exciting thing is that this message board is going to get a new look in the not too distant future. We don't have an exact date yet but I'll keep you posted.

So without further ado, head over to the new Gardening Blog and let us know your thoughts. I will do my best to answer as many questions as possible.

Looking forward to getting to know you smiley - smiley
    Jen

Is the Gardening site going to end up anything like the Food site? If it is, this is very sad news, because the food site has been killed STONE DEAD.

    Hi Jen,
thanks for your answer on the other thread that it's not the intention to put everything on one Q&A board. That's a relief!
Below are a few observations of mine, it's not necessary to answer them directly, they are just my observations!

I agree things could be streamlined.
Though it's nice that one board here is called 'allotment tales' and another 'garden clinic', it does often lead to a lot of veggie questions being asked on the clinic board, seasons being what they are probably the same question has or will be asked on the allotments board that very same day.

Whilst FAQ's and even blogs really should and would cover a lot of
things, what is - IMO - really useful on these boards are the following:

On these boards you will find a very wide range of experience from (in)organic farmers, nursery owners and a whole host of dedicated growers from the tip of Scotland down to Cornwell and Sussex, across the channel to Belgium, Germany and down to France and beyond.
This gives such insights into growing things and knowledge of varieties, that, with all due respect the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú can't cover. At least not all at once.

e.g. we had a very strange summer - very wet and cold in some places, hot and dry in others. Enough experienced people here to help on all questions in (almost) all areas, in very, very great detail. So that is the flexibility that a message board offers.

Welcome Madam, could some sort of geographical area be fitted to the name of members at the top of the message as this may help any advice given if we were to know whereabouts they live? Cheers, Tony.

Why are you changing it? Has anyone complained? I think it's great just as it is. It'll just be another thing to struggle to get to know. Could it be because a "new broom feels it has to sweep clean" regardless?

Hi everyone who's replied on this thread.

margaretstar...you're not the only one who has questioned the name of the 'Allotment tales' and in fact another community member made the great suggestion of re-titling it 'Edible gardening'. I think that would clear things up a great deal but I'll create a new thread to gague opinion.

We can also update the descriptions at the top of each topic to help newbies (and established users) decide in which topic they should post their question.

The idea of geographically identifying users is a tricky one technically. It's simply not possible in the existing message board engine. Why don't you just say which region you are in your post?!

To answer concerns about re-freshing the look of the boards....it's certainly not a case of a 'new broom...' All the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú message boards are getting a new look to make them more user-friendly *ducks for cover*

You can read more about the changes on two posts on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's Internet blog:

I will answer any questions as best I can.

I've just re-read those blog posts and they're unbelieveably techie - apologies!

Please do ask me questions and I will attempt to answer them in non-techie speak.

Please, please not Edible Gardening. Thats got no feel to it at all. I do not have an allotment, just a veg plot in my garden but allotment tales is just fine by me.

Have just read David Williams blog. Heaven help us! Does anyone know what the following mean, "vanilla skin, scrum, sprint, iterative process" ? ??. I guess I'm just too simple a soul. I shall never cope with the changes if this is what it is going to be like. Can I make a plea for us humble, plain folk who just want to talk about our fruit and veg. Some of us are very far from being computer experts. Complex does not mean better. If it ain't broke, please don't fix it!
