Hi All
I'm fairly new to the veg growing area, but have successfully managed various tomatoes, lettuces, cucumbers, chard (and carrots for the first time this year) over the last few years in pots, which I had some good successes
I bought a raised 1000 x 760 x 800 vegetable planter earlier this year which sits on my front drive and is north facing.
I'd like to make use of it over the winter and grow veg in it but have absolutely no idea what to plant in it as I've never grown winter veg.
Can anybody out there help me out with suggestions on what to plant in the veg-table that I'll be able to grow and harvest over the winter time. Would like to grow garlic as well if possible.
Next spring I'll probably do swiss chard, round lettuce and maybe carrots again (can I do this?)
Many thanks in advance.

Broad beans will not be ready for the winter time though.
It`s getting a bit late but rocket is tough and you just might get away with some hardy oriental greens-eg `Green in the snow`

Thanks both.
Are there any other options? Beans are one of the few things I don't like.

Kale and leeks are fairly winter hardy, and brussels sprouts, but you've left it a bit late to sow - maybe see if you can get hold of small plants. Fenugreek will still germinate, and winter spinach, and you can use both, plus the rocket, for salad leaves. Now is the time to plant overwintering onions and garlic (but neither will be ready til next summer), and plant soft fruit such as strawberries (ditto). You could also put in some hardy herbs, eg rosemary. Failing all else, bung in some wallflowers for lovely colour and scent, and roll on spring!

Hi Bluebell_Mel
Jim McColl (presenter of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland's gardening programme, Beechgrove) is going to be answering wintery questions in his next blog post.
We can ask him for some suggestions.

Thanks guys, will see if I can get some young plants from the garden centre this weekend to put in the planter and will also post a message to Jim.
