I think the allotment should invest in a book about weeds, is tere a good one out there?

Amazon has a pretty good selection of books on gardening in general and some just about weeds.
The RHS have a very good one which identifies most weeds and information about how to get rid of them either chemically or by garden friendly means.
about how to get rid of them either chemically or by garden friendly meansÂ
Assuming that you want to get rid of them at all.
I can't say that I am keen on groundsel or bind weed, but dandelions I positively encourage for their marvellous flowers after the daffodils!
I made dandelion wine with them last year, unusual in that you use the flower as the wine mash.
Dr.D.G.Hessayan do a range of books on gardening. There is one called 'Pest and Weed Expert' although I've not read it, it could be worth a look. I've two books in the range and found then very good for reference.
