I know that buttercups send out runners that all have baby plants and hundreds of seeds too. Do they grow from the roots as well?
They don't have swollen roots like most perennial weeds?

Yes they are a real pain once they start to spread, as they can't be pulled out by hand. You have to dig over the whole patch to get them out.
