Hi all.
I'm looking for a little help and advice before I dig up a border and spend any money!
I'd love to plant a couple of apple trees and would prefer to put them out of the way a little. There is a large shady border that I could clear but I don't know if there are any apple trees that still fruit well in shade (it gets some light but limited even in summer).
Can anyone let me know if there are any varieties that do well in shade or if I am better of trying to find a sunnier spot.
Many thanks!!
The usual advice is the sunnier the better but I have an apple tree which is well shaded by the house. This has been its first full year so I've only had one apple off it but it still looks healthy so I'm hoping for better things next year. It's a self-fertile Cox's Orange Pippin.
Not a problem, but do not expect to get any red ones.
