Hello there,im hoping for some advice here, ive got a packet of these Mr Fothergills Wildflower woodland mixture

does anybody have any idea whats in them, there is very little info on the net about them and the seed packet tells me next to nothing about conent,i just dont want it full of ox-eye daisy and corn marigolds, which tend to take over and seed everywhere! so if anybody has grown them before or has some idea what goes into these "mixes" or can Recommend some other mixes, any information would be great, thanks!

The one you mentioned does not seem to be geared toward larger quantities or much choice. It is a retail take it or leave it!

The enterprise above does a marvellous selection of wildflower from small to very large quantities.

I tried them this year and they did well but my garden design plans changed some what, and their mixes really only come to maturity after a couple of years, but I am quite sure you will like them too. Some of what has come up, is really interesting, and meadow flowers or no meadow flowers I DO live close by a meadow/pasture.

I`ve not tried the mix you mention, Country Gent, but I doubt it will have ox-eye daisies in it if it is the "woodland mixture", because ox-eye daisies grow in an open, sunny, breezy spot.
If the mix is true to the title, it will contain wild plants that live in dappled shade.

Agree with As-Iff - and there appear to be foxgloves in the picture on the link. Other plants for dappled shade/woodland might be primrose, lungwort, anemone nemorosa. Maybe forget-me-not, which can be invasive, but I just give surplus away to friends, it is so lovely. And I confess I just let ox-eye daisy and corn marigold seed away, too - love lots of flowers in a glorious jumble.

Don't forget, these meadow flowers thrive where they have little competition from other plants. In ground with very little nutrient and not 'improved' so don't plant them in very rich soils as the grasses etc will quickly croud them out. Cheers, Tony.
