    Evening all

I'm planning for next year already, thinking about digging up half my garden to include veg beds.
The main area in question gets sun first thing in the morning until about 2 in the afternoon. Will this be sufficient for most veggies? I'll also have a few raised beds elsewhere so I'm thinking about using the part shaded bed for the longer term veg like brassicas, kale etc and possibly courgettes.
The other thing I'll need to take into account are my dogs, I don't fancy eating anything my boy has been sniffing around so I'll either have to fence off which might cause more shade or create raised beds.
Any advice gratefully received, at least I have a couple of months to dream before the digging starts.

Raisedbeds from paving slabs held in place with a band of angle iron around the top. Can the dogs jump 24" ? I suppose I should close this message by saying, "Mind how you go". I remember it well. Cheers, Tony.

A fence of chickenwire should be good enough and won't shade your veg.

If your dog does adopt a kung-fuu posture, he will be spraying amonia, which is a nitrogen feed.

As you would be washing the vegetables, I guess that you would survive.

It has to be borne in mind that birds also go on bombing runs over vegetable plots as well and we all, or the lucky ones, add hoss or cow deposits to boost our crops, so relax - DON'T PANIC!

    thanks for the responses.
Paving slabs are a very good idea, I'll investigate. They should be high enough, they only need to be leg height if you know what I mean, chicken wire might be a bit too transparent to stop my boy!
I think I'm mainly concerned about the shade but if half a day is enough then I'll give it a go.

It'll really be OK to eat? How come I've got a brown lawn from my bitch and everything he pees against ends up wilting and black???? It must be very concentrated.
I'm quite relaxed about eating stuff that's been where it shouldn't but I think the rest of the family may be slightly more squeamish.
Don't you just love some conversations on here, lol.
