The snow has finally let up now so I am thinking of digging in a bin full of manure to the patch - but is this a good time as I still have a dusting of snow. Would love to know what the rest of you are doing on the patches in this winter wonderland

I`m sat here with the log burner on and a cat who thinks she can help by trying to sit on my keyboard.
digging manure in now will not do much harm and it`s good exercise-but for my part such things can wait.
Hacking into frozen soil is about as tempting as watching reality tv
I don't dig when the ground is frozen as it does not do it any good and its no good for my back (lol)..... I'm just making seed lists and sortin the shed out when I can get to it, but I will be sowing the Tom/pepper and some other seeds as soon as the new year is here.
Whatsthemarrow... Happy Xmas to all!

Sitting looking at it and making plans for the spring.
Leave your manure to steam in its bin for the cold weather then dig it in as soon as the ground is soft once again. You would not get a spade two inches into the ground up here in the Northeast and it snowed again today.
You will gain nothing at this moment in time so why do it, you will need the exercise after Christmas anyway to get rid of all that pudding watching TV and sweets.
Frank.

Unless the manure is hot, leave it alone, all you're going to do is insulate the soil and stop it from defrosting as quick.

Agree. Also better when you can dig properly, because at the same time you can take out any recalcitrant weeds and roots that may still be lurking in your plot.
I had a large heap of manure on my old veggie patch, and used to barrow it over frosty ground and dump it in heaps, and go back to spread it when the frost had thawed.
