Now that the New Year has arrived and Spring is just around the corner, I have started looking at some of the veg that I am going to try this year. Sweetcorn is top of the list, along with kale, peppers and chillies. The weather is the only thing that is preventing me from getting going. Last week ice and snow , this week rainy and mild, but late Jan and Feb snow usually appears, so will have to wait.

What are you thinking of trying this year?

I have a packet of water melon seeds my wife brought me back from Spain. I've never grown anything like it before & wonder how do I prepare the soil & if it will be alright if I incorporate horse manure into the soil now will I be able to put the plants in the soil in May?

If they fruit this year and the birds don't get them first I'm looking forward to a crop of currents red, white and black along with gooseberries all planted Octoberish.

I'll be planting more of the same from last year to use up seeds but plan to plant things closer together to create space for one or two new vegs. Mooli being one along with Kohl and fennel.
