Ive just bought a new greenhouse (the last one didnt survive the heavy snow) and I need some tips on how to stop slugs in my greenhouse. I grow all the usual salad veg but last year I had a major problem with slugs especially on my lettuce. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Well, picking the blighters off, or scattering slug pellets around the plants would be the obvious answere for me.
Slugs like sheltered, moist conditions, especially so when there is a luscious green food supply there too.
Slugs normally come out at night.
So the best way to catch them is simply to pop out with a torch, after dark.
Add a beer trap to the rest of the armoury too, but don't use lager. They seem to prefer ale and bitter to lager.
Instead of putting all kinds of slug traps in the greenhouse have you thought of putting traps outside the greenhouse?
Ive found over the years the very best trap is the beer trap, its the strong smell that the slugs just cant resist and if you can stop them getting into the greenhouse in the first place, your half way there,
Also the ale trap is better than pellets as the birds wont end up poisoned,

Slug pellets have been suggested, but you can also buy a liquid slug killer that can be sprayed on surfaces, and that is also effective.
You could try nematodes, they are VERY effective, a bit expensive for the general allotment, but over a small greenhouse it should be OK. I can't remember how much you get, but you could share them, or use them on the rest of the plot/garden.

Punpun, there are wildlife friendly slug pellets available. In Belgium they're called Escar-Go and I expect they're the same in France.
