I planted two pot grown plants last year, which grew well. Over the winter the stalks have fallen off and there is no sign of life at the surface. Have they died?
That's pretty normal, more so when you consider the weather we have had of late, plus the frosts we had last night.
They will push through when the soil temperatures are to its liking!
Forgot to mention you can stick a bucket over them to force them.
Having said that if you do this I would only cover one plant as forcing weakens the plant.
By doing only the one you will get two cropping periods.
I'll leave this thought with you....Tg
Thanks Tee Gee you have put my mind at rest. I will try the forcing on one plant.
It is good practise to cover the crowns with good manure/compost in Autumn to protect the crowns from frost. Once you have forced the one crown, leave it for the year to allow it to recover, next year force a different crown. Cheers, Tony.
