After much procrastination and wondering if I had enough energy/intent/interest for this coming year I just spent a small fortune on seeds.
Hi martin,
Good for you ref the seeds,
Just as a way of letting you know your doing the right thing by getting into the growing your own, And it's this,
The very same experts who told us about the climate changes a while back have now said we're in for big future food shortages due to the lack of all kinds of seeds ie corn, wheat, etc and taking this thought in mind and the future cost of food stuffs and the fact that the cheap labour from the far east is coming to a rapid end as those countries are producing so much of their own exports and can now pay good wages to the work force, and the very cost of any transport these days really puts a hell of a added cost to getting food to the shops,
It can only be a good thing to grow your own, So well done and i hope you get a good result from your effort.
Regards punpun.
Hi Martin,
Good for you, from me too.
But don't forget that after buying them you have to sow them <smiley face>.

I have been into it for the last few years with the usual mixture of frustrations and successes born of inexperience and ignorance I guess.
It's just that I get set a big plunge in enthusiasm over the winter and can't imagine finding the time or make the effort.
I think the nature of my enthusiasm (when it arrives) is a bit different from many on hear. I like the idea of eating stuff I've grown my self but not because it's cheaper (it certainly isn't) nor do I really believe it's very much more nutritious than shop bought and I'm not organic.
Home grown can definitely taste better though, plus I have a child like fascination with sowing a tiny seed and watching and nurturing a big plant to successful productivity.

Hmmmm, I wish there was an edit button so I could go back and correct my wretched syntax and spelling mistakes....like some other forums I use
Martin you can always hit "Preview" instead of "Post Message" - you can then edit your post if you wish. Nan x
Martin
Ditch micro$oft internet explorer and get firefox as your internet browser
Firefox has a very nice spell checking add in and its a lot more secure
As to home grown having more flavour. . . . My sister in law doesn't like my home grown carrots - she says "They're too carroty"! can you believe it?
A while ago I found a way of enlarging the writing, I've now forgotten how to do it , could someone remind me please? Cheers, Tony.
Hi KLEFTIWALLAH?
Ref making your writing get bigger!
Have you tried manure?
(Sometimes i think i think to much of my time thinking gardening )

Martin, I think that child-like fascination you describe is in all good gardeners. Don't ever let it go.
