    Hi all,
Well im sure a lot of you have a set routine like myself for starting the day off and mine is a simple daily routine i do,

Out of bed at 7 am in the winter , shower, count the teeth and use very little toothpaste (i"ll let you guess why) and down the stairs and then i get a smashing welcome from the dogs and then they go back into thier baskets and sleep until i get thier breakfast ready (later)

I open the front door and look at the weather situation,

Well this morning it was misty a little cold but even so you could feel the garden wakening up, And ive a feeling in my bones that we're going to have an early spring, the amount of bulbs coming up so early, the size of the buds on verious bushes, ie the budlia these buds are really big and as its one of the early ones to show flowers it's a good one to keep an eye on.

I fill the birds feed tray up every morning and again they seemed to take thier time in getting to the tray, (must be something better about for them to eat)

By 10am the sky was really clear and the sun was trying to show through,

For the few members who said they'd got a propagator off santa and wanted to know what to sow now?
Well ive had toms in for a few weeks and they are doing well, i also put geranium seed in at the same time (jan the 1st) and again ive a good half size seed tray full and looking good, Lettuce , these have taken and will later go into individual pots in the greenhouse later,

All these seeds ive sown in the small propagator placed on a worktop in my workshop, (no night heating) and they've all taken ie no wasted sowings.

I soak the seed compost ive put in the seed trays and let tha water drain away and then i sow the seeds and after sowing i cover the seeds with vermiculite But you can use a light covering of the seed compost.

Thats all the watering i do and this damp compost will not need any more water for a few weeks,(until the seeds have burst into life and you can see the small plants above the compost,

Yeah I too love my routine -always up first about 6.40am wash, dress, put the kettle on, top up the bird feeders and eye up the morning! At this time of the year I am always back in shortly after the kettle has boiled - in summer I may be a while!!
Back in - porridge, real coffee and a slice of toast, the cat and I eye up the birds(for completely different reasons) through the patio doors enjoying the peace and quiet before my teenagers pound the stairs...and the rest the day begins!

    Hi Punpun,

I like the sound of your morning! I also like the tip about soaking the seed trays! I bought some flower seeds which I wanted to get started, but we are going away next Sat for two weeks and I thought I might have to leave them till we get back. This tip means I can get them all set up in the greenhouse and leave them to get going while I am away! Thank you!!

I decided I want my allotment to look pretty and colourful with bee and butterfly attracting flowers, now just to work out where I can fit them in!

    Hi pigolf,
I once worked all the hours god sent and when i was in the Army i always seemed to get the CHRISTMAS day 24 hour guard duty, year in & year out even my last christmas in the Army i had 6 weeks to go before discharge and we went on red alert and i had my leave cancelled and put on duty (christmas day again)

It was'nt until my wife decided i was going to take early retirement that my hours and life took a big change for the better,

So i really do know we're your coming from and i hope you get your just rewards for the long working hours, (but dont live to work, it's really not worth it if you over do it)
    Regards PUNPUN.

    Thanks Punpun.

Maybe I was laying it on a bit thick because I had a bad day !

I usually get plenty of time at the lotty once the clocks change and I have more time at night.
Appreciate the advice about work, I would certainly be happy if I had enough cash to ditch work and go on the lotty full time but for the moment, I still need to go.

    Roll on summer !

    Pete
