Anybody know where i can buy a small amount of onion sets ( this may not be the right name ) for the ones that grow into large onions.
Also is it to early to start other things peas and runner beans. I do have a greenhouse but not heated i have also bought Aster seeds and other bits.
Just to say last year i bought some seed on a tape for my daughter to grow as she has CP these were very good for her as the seed is spaced out and she just had to cover them with soiland no thining out so for any one with small children or jerky hand movements do try this. Thanks for any help.
Sue,
Try the £1 shops which have some in at the moment and maybe pass on the ones you don't want to a neighbour/friend/lcal school....
How do define large?
Do you mean around a pound in weight or those that are six pounds plus!
Most of the sets you can buy will reach around the pound Mark but I haven't heard of setts for the 'giant' varieties, but some companies sell pre germinated seedling plants
Google robinson' s seeds or Medwyn's of Angelsy and see what they have.
I heartily agree with you about Medwyn's Tee Gee, but orders have to be in well before Christmas for his seedlings. From those, I have grown monsters. Somehow they just don't go to seed and let you have freebies! Cheers, Tony.
My local Lidl has just put up a seed rack. I bought about 100 onion seeds for 29p! Maybe I should hold back the exclamation mark until their sown and grown, though?

hi,wilkinsons do them you probably go there often anyway, they have a good selection only there's about a 100 sets in a bag(that is an onion alredy grown to a certain size and then stopped),if you just want a few try seeds its not to late to start them off in home on the window sill and plant out in the second week of march.

If you have allotments near you, it is possible that they would have an allotment shop where you could buy the specific number of onions that you require.

Thank you all for your help.
Sue
Hi, our allotment shop has loose onion sets. Sturon for sale. Maybe you have one on your allotment site. I just work out how many I eat (approx) 1 a week so just buy 52. I find that even if I lose any I have enough. I have no waste and it's cheaper than buying the pkts. Our local pet shop also sells seeds etc also the onion sets have you a local one you could try. Good luck.
