Hello everyone,
It's been a while since I posted on here but my thoughts are increasingly turning towards my garden and I'm beginning to make plans for the spring.
My friend and I have been debating whether a small variety of cucumber would do well enough in a hanging basket. We've looked on the internet but there is conflicting advice about this. We would welcome any thoughts on this as both are quite limited with space.
Many thanks.
Hi, Doncat
Yes, this is perfectly feasible.
Remember to use only bush varieties, using the compost from new tomato growbags.
Use a minimum of 15" hanging baskets.
And don't forget plenty of water. Hanging baskets can dry out in a flash in summer.
What about trying Crystal Apple variety? It has small round yellow fruits, so they shouldn't get too heavy and fall to the ground. I haven't grown it myself but it is widely recommended. I have a feeling that it is trailing though... but maybe that it better for stability reasons? Not sure.
There's one called Spacemaster 80 which can be grown in a basket. Premier seeds direct do it, 50 seeds 99p with 59p p&p. They have a lovely selection of seeds.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like it's definitely worth a try and I will certainly have a look at the recommended varieties.
