Okay so i have bought my seed pots and i want to chitt them but have been studying them carefully is there a RIGHT way up?
Do i stand them on end or lay them down?
Do i need to rotate them?
Do i use wooden trays or polystyrene trays?
Do i just leave them in the guest bedroom near the window , it is north facing or the office which is south facing?
How long do i leave them for?
Didn't know it was so complicated but i will get it right please!!!

I normally place them in cardboard egg trays with the end with the most number of eyes up.
I also only chit early potatoes as these do benefit (bigger crop) from chitting where as mains don't really benefit at all.
Window sill will be fine and I usually plant my earlies out around mid March so they'll be fine till then (although that part is dependant on the weather of course!)
This is what I do - seems to work
I put them in used egg cartons, either cardboard or polystyrene, doesn't matter. If i don't have egg boxes I put them in shallow cardboard boxes with cardboard dividers.
Stand them on end, with the end with the most eyes at the top. I put them on a north facing windowsill in an unheated bedroom. I rotate the egg trays round (not the spuds) when I remember - about once a week.
I start them off about now and begin planting first earlies on my birthday (20 March). Plant them the same way up that they were chitted. Second earlies and mains go in a bit later.
Digging up new potatoes is the best bit of gardening.
Good luck
Caz
Snap, DiggerSean!
