last year we grew sporting broccoli and did not have much luck on these. this year we want to try broccoli that u buy in shops. can anyone tell me a a good variety that is not sprouting broccoli?

OK.
I`m presuming that you mean Calabrese which is the green stuff you buy in the shops. There is loads of advice on how to grow this but check the link below

I agree I think you are referring to Calabrese.
I think the first thing you have to be aware of is; it takes up quite a bit of space and one variety tends to mature at the same time.
I grow three varieties that mature at slightly different times so that I get a bit of continuity.
What I find is;
By the time I have eaten variety 1 Variety 2 is ready
then by the time I have finished these
variety 1 has sent up secondary spears so I use these
then variety 2 does the same so I am cropping for anything up to two months.
Variety 3 is a much later variety so that is usually ready when varieties 1 & 2 are well and truly finished.
I even so some much later in the hope we get an Indian summer then I get a catch crop, but this is risky as this batch can be wiped out with early frosts.
I find it worth the risk in the last three the svcore is 2 to me and 1 to jack frost.
