If you can afford the heat, light and space now you can sow onion, peppers, aubergine, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, indoor cucumbers, marrows, pumpkins, leeks and squash indoors through early March.

Outside, if your soil is friable, you can sow or plant out Parsnip, Radish, Peas, B Beans, Broccoli, Carrots, Leeks, Onion sets, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Spinach and Brussel Sprouts.

If the ground is sodden, needs some organic matter added or is not yet weed free you can get just as good growth - if not better - by waiting another couple of weeks. Even planting in mid to late April the plants make up the growth quickly I find.Light levels at an early stage of growth make a huge difference to strength of the mature plant. I can't wait to start but have to face cleaning all the pots first smiley - sadface

"Terday, I 'ave bin mowstly plarntin'...."

Tomatoes (Red Cherry), Cucumber (Marketmore), Lettuce (Webbs Wonderful) freebie seeds and Red Salad Bowl, Spring Onions (Winter White Bunching) freebie seeds and Lisbon, Chilli (Fireflame), Mangetout peas.

They are now cosily tucked up in their propagator. I have been digging compost and chicken pellets into the soil, with a robin for company. Oooh it's LOVELY to be outside for hours and hours again rather than frozen minutes.

Dirty hands, mucky knees, runny nose, dressed like a scarecrow and blissfully happy!
