Hi - silly question alert! I bought a growhouse at the end of last year ready for this year on the basis i thought it would be a smaller alternative to a greenhouse, which I don't have room for. Is this correct? I wanted to check before I entrust to it my treasured budding veggies!!

I'm a bit puzzled by your question. I'm assuming by growhouse you mean one of those narrow tall frames covered by clear plastic? If you already have it you'll know that it's smaller than a greenhouse.

Or do you mean does it perform the same function as a greenhouse? Yes, but you'll have to keep a close eye on ventilation and pest control as presumably it will be rather crowded which will make it easier for problems to go from plant to plant. I also wouldn't site it in full sun all day as it will be difficult to shade it necessary.

I assumed that it's one of those wooden framed ones with polycarbonate glazing?
If so, I'd do as last poster suggests, but I'd also add that you will need to secure the frame to something in the event of high winds, as they are less stable, being taller. Same applies to a tall, 3or4tier, plastic greenhouse.

I'd treat it more like a luxury coldframe, I suppose. Especially if sited in a part shaded place.
If you only have a sunny aspect, lucky you, then the ventilation is vital as said by last poster. Then it will be a good substitute for a greenhouse.

I know of people doing toms etc in them, but again, smaller varieties are better, so do your research before you plant/buy- ie read the back of seed packets as to the ultimate size & style of plant growth. J.

Or do you mean a shed with a sloping wall and large window?
