    I found a wondrful site that gave me the last and first frost for MY area,

    Everybody on our site that has seen it is impressed, although we do know that;
    1) it's an average
    2) every year can be very different- last year we had a very nasty snap frost in JUNE!
    3) microclimate can affect frosts, even across my plot one bit gets frost quite often (it's low) while the top doesn't.

    Does anyone know if there is a similar site for soil temperatures?

    Lottie

    Hi Lottie!

    I posted this link a while back; scroll to the bottom of the page to the last frost date on a map.(survey data).

    I think soil temperatures would be difficult to map because the site elevation above sea level, sun exposure and prevailing wind direction, water levels and organic material in it would all have an effect. As a rule of thumb though grass starts to grow when the soil temp is 9deg C and growth is retarded by temps below 9degC. (Slugs and snails also emerge when soil at this temp!!!) HTH
