Nice to look at however. . . just received my pack of free flowers from the Daily Mail, got them watered in pots in the greenhouse, the only ones I recognise are Hollyhocks and lupins. You never know I may grow to like 'em. .! Cheers, Tony.

Tony. The horror!!!
Have you never heard of companion planting??? Those Lupins will fix nitrogen into the soil, calendula in a cream for when you've overdone the sun after a day in the garden, nasturtiums in salads, sunflower seeds and poppy seeds on home made breads, sugared violets on cake, lavender for soaking in bath oils, marigolds for warding off dreaded whitefly, Comfrey the wonderflower, Nepeta for my wondercat and THEN.....all the gorgeous smelling, beautiful flowers that fill my heart with happiness in vases in my kitchen in the summer!
I'm veggies till the end but you need flowers too, they're good for the soul...and for brownie points with the wife

Come on, Tony, you're pulling our legs. Where would your runner beans without flowers? Or your courgettes? And tomatoes? And remember that some flowers are edible and not just those of courgettes. Marigolds, nasturtiums, day lilies...
As for the purely ornamental plants, they provide homes and food for insects that devour the pests on your sacred veg.

Steady on Tony old chap !
Theres nothing nicer than a row of glads on the allotment with some potatoes or onions next to them.
I`m also going to grow some Dahlias this year for cut flowers.
Goodness knows what they would have said on the TV board about your comment the rotten lot !. LOL
