This morning i put up a small plastic green house! I also sown some beetrot, swede and cabbage. So exciting! Is this to early? I can't wait to sow more! I also went down my allotment dug a little over, turn the soil over in the boxes. I was shocked how the soil was so dry! I did sow carrots in two boxes! Is that to early? I'm so keen i just want to be sowing loads and loads.

good morning Katie,i have been trying to finish my digging off for the last 3 days but with the amount of rain we have had its a no go its so frustrating as i only have to turn over another 4 rows of 7 metres long you are so lucky that your soil is dry,i am picking up a plastic greenhouse this week and cant wait to get some seeds sown,i will be like a child with a new toy once the greenhouse arrives, so i understand how you feel, this is my 2nd year of growing my own so i`m on a learning curve but what i do is to check on here as to when i sow, anyway happy growing kind regards chris

Where are you planning to grow your beetroot? It doesn't transplant well.

I hope you don't mind me replying to your mail but I was thinking along the same lines as italophile

    < quote > I also sown some beetrot, swede and cabbage.< /quote >

Beetrot will transplant but it is not normal to do this.

Plus the fact if you have not sown a monogerm variety (single seed) you will lose more than you get.

    Carrots don't transplant either....sorry!

A little patience is what is required here.

A tip; forget what it says on the packet get some local knowledge as to when to plant things.

Patience is what is called for, seeds are resilent pieces of nature and they will catch up if sown later.

I agree. For the last 3 summers I've sown beetroot into seed trays and then into large pots. I've had really good fruits every time and I have some in seed trays right now. Whatever works for you, and you learn from mistakes.
