A real gardener is none of the above, it is a person who gardens.
Gardener
someone who takes care of a garden
someone employed to work in a garden
one who grows plants or cultivates a garden
I agree with As-Iff and cufcskim.
I would add that it is also anyone with an interest in gardening and in growing plants even if the "garden" is only a window-box.
I would also say that my four year old granddaughter is a real gardener, having sown, planted, nurtured and then eaten carrots. She is now helping her mother with a patio garden and is intent on encouraging birds, bees, butterflies and worms.
Surely it is about "doing" gardening, within whatever physical or practical limitations you have.
