HI everyone. has anyone tried using a parafin heater in a mini (pvc) greenhouse? I'm considering a parasene one but need advice.
thank you.
Gut instinct says you'll cook everything or melt the thing but after a quick search a 'cold frame heater' might be suitable.

Hi. Personally I'd steer clear of paraffin. As it burns it gives off water vapour, making everything wet; the last thing you want when its still cold and damp outside. Perfect conditions for mould. You could ventilate, but then you'd lose most of your heat. How about getting a fleece cover for the structure, which would be underneath the plastic cover? Or maybe moving it against a wall of the house out of the wind..?
I had a paraffin greenhouse heater years ago and it was a useful heat source but, besides the condensation, I found I needed to be very cautious to avoid smoke. After I'd lit the heater and walked away the flame began to burn higher as it heated up. More than once I came back in the morning to find the greenhouse and everything in it coated in black soot. After that I always kept the wick evenly trimmed and the flame turned low.

I used to use a paraffin heater in my greenhouse, and the only problem that I experienced was finding a hardware shop that sold paraffin.
I had a blue-flame heater, which did not give off much in the way of fumes or smoke, but kept the greenhous warm.
On warm days I would make sure that the house was ventilated.
I guess that the efficiency of the heating would depend on the quality of the heater purchased.
Try this instead and you might get lucky.
Thanks everyone. I'll have a look for a blue flame cold frame heater and a fleece cover. wish me luck. Its cold here in Lanarkshire. I'll be sure to ventilate well during the day if weather is even half decent.
