I love fresh parsley in soup and sprinkled over potatoes, however I never seem to be able to get really curly parsley like they sell in supermarkets,I normally sow Moss Curled.Any other varieties I should try??
'Envy'
Thank you,I will buy Envy tomorrow, and give it a try.
I have to admit that I cheat by never sowing seed for parsley.
Most years I simply buy one of the larger pots of growing parsley from the supermarket, rip it into five or six pieces, and then plant them out.
This usually keeps me in curly parsley all year, in fact I'm still harvesting it now, despite the winter temperature plummeting locally to minus 20 celcius.
Oh thank you Tootsietim will also go and buy a plant.. Never thought of tearing into bits but will try.
I have tried for years to grow parsley and failed.
Was once told that only the one who wore the trousers in the house could grow parsley!!
Also the seeds go to hell and back 7 times before they germinate.
Another tip was to pour boiling water on the soil before planting the seeds.
I promise you have tried all the above and failed!
Good luck with yours
Agree with Tootsietim. I did the same thing a few days ago (I only split mine into 3) and potted them on. The main reason they die if you leave them in the original pot is that they are really overcrowded. I have split them before and it works great.

Penny Pops, thanks for your good wishes.I have managed to germinate moss curled parsley in the past but it does take a while.Purchased my envy seeds and will sow them tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I've grow parsley with great success. Try Fothergill seeds.
I planted mine just outside the greenhouse. It comes up most years.

" I simply buy one of the larger pots of growing parsley"
I did the same and it almost grew DURING the winter.
The deer like it too.
Hi,
A couple of years ago I tried flat leaved parsley for the first time. I found it a lot easier to grow than the curly type and, apparently, professional cooks prefer the flavour, can't say that I notice much difference.
It is still relatively slow and itb is an idea to sow it with radishes and harvest the radishes while the parsley seedlings are growing.
Also, apparently, they say that parsley does best where the "woman wears the trousers"...not sure about this either!

Flat leaved parsley is what chefs use as it tastes much better than curled. My parsley seeds all over my allotment.
I agree with the first reply. I always grow "envy" and think it is the best. I've always been quite successful at growing it from seed. It takes a while to germinate but once it gets going it grows really well. I keep a pot growing outside my kitchen door and usually manage to cut fresh parsley all year round, even in the middle of winter.
