My red cabbages are healthy and have grown very well in my raised bed. One problem though they have no heart, or at least what they have is very loose. Can anyone suggest why this might be? Thank you

The cause is usually poor soil, or the site is too shady. They need organic matter in the soil, sufficient nutrients, and an open sunny spot.
It`s also important to plant the seedlings firmly, and to compact the soil around the plants.
Thank you. Yes have had a read around and think it must be that they weren't firmed in enough. The beds face directly south, they have had consistent water and my compost and manure. Frustratingly I don't know the variety as they were garden centre plug plants. Ironically my cabbage, (wintessa) and grown from seed have been great.

Well, Sally, they`ll still taste the same. Happy eating!
