My moulded plastic water butt has a separated seam on the bottom. Has anyone had this and successfully repaired it? Or any suggestions for repairing or failing that another use?

A separated butt seam would be very tricky to repair and would need a specialist type of glue to sort it out.
I used gutter mastik on mine when it split its side seam a bit.I cleaned and dried the surfaces both inside and out and applied a couple of layers to the outside and inside of the butt pressing well into the gap and allowing it to dry between layers. It has worked on my butt though it sometimes it weeps a little when full - but not enough for me to empty the butt and repeat the process.I treated it a couple of years ago.
I would use a silicon base sealant like that in bathrooms or for sealing window frames, I frequently use it for odd jobs and it sticks to most things. Dow Corning and other make it and one with a high modulus (flexibility when cured) would be better but not critical, it is not always specified.
I would apply it as already described but would also try using it to stick a patch on the inside made of an old bike tyre inner tube or pond liner. The water pressure will work in your favour on the inside and it will be out of sight.
I should try and find the reciept then approach the seller. Cheers, Tony.
I hve the same problem but it is in the seam close to the tap hole.
I first tried silicone ( normally very good at preventing leaks),which didn't work. Then I tried heavy duty adhesive tape. This didn't work either.
This year, having glass fibre and ahhesive for another job, I thought I'd give it a try. It looked really good. Whern I can to refit the tap however a little gentleknock and bang, away came the glass fibre patch.
So I'm hoping that someone will come up with the edefinitive answer!
My butt (the watery one that is) is made of HDPE which I guess is fairly standard.
In hope L
Has anyone tried the tape sold for repairing pond liners?
Araldite may do the trick.
