Hope no-one minds, but, I'm going to try to kill two birds with one stone in this discussion.

I bought one of those strawberry planters (40L) made from woven polyethylene, with the intention, believe or not, of planting 4or5 small strawberry plants in it.

When it arrived, it said strawberry/herb planter, I hadn't thought of it before, but, had also been looking something else to plant my herbs in. Would it be possible to plant both together? Could this cause any problems or effect flavours etc?

Might be a ridiculous notion but I only started trying to grow fruit/veg last year and in particular want to get a decent crop of strawberries this time round.

And now for the second question...

I have three very large 90L tree/mature shrub trugs and have the three different type of potatoes earlies etc...how many could I feasibly plant in each? I have read never plant more than three in each container but given the size of the containers this seems rather minimal.

Thanks for any help, it's really appreciated.

    Yes, but...

Strawbs want coddled, a rich fertile soil and lots of water, herbs generally prefer 'neglect ' want something more impoverished and dry.

Strawberries+herbs-i see no obvious problems, just chose someting fairly compact that you feel might compliment the flavour of the berries.

Potatoes in containers?-Not my area but i would have thought you could plant a few more than 3-especially with first earlies where size is not the main factor.

You will find that the mint will take over the planter, really it needs to be grown in a container on its own it is so invasive, like lemon balm. Nan x

Funny have noticed that in the window sill planter where I've grown herbs before.

Going to take out of that now as well and avoid putting it in with the strawberries.

Thanks for the help, great that you get all these little pieces of peoples experience on here.

    Cheers!!

Just a suggestion about the way you put your questions:

I don't think anyone will mind in the least if you ask two questions in one, but if you want useful answers, it'd be better to ask separate questions and put something in the title box to say what each one is about. Most people don't read all the questions, they scroll through and click on any that interest them. If yours says No Title, they won't have any idea and may just ignore it.

So if you get good replies, that's great, but if you're still needing further responses, try posting again with separate questions and a title to show what it's about.

I can't actually add anything to what's been said about your actual queries, so I'll shut up now.

Im the opposit because it had no title it caught my eye and made me look smiley - smiley

I wouldnt suggest planning mint with strawberries as it does take over and strawberries could become hidden and small as a result. Although I have grown apple mint and found this not so demanding on space. I do have a strawberry pot and have strawberries hanging in the side slots and have grown spring onions and raddishes in the top something quick and upwards so dont take light etc off the strawberries that worked for me - good luck
