I sowed tomato plants twelve day ago and still no sign. Shall i bin them and start again? I sown some runner beans, the seeds were not great they seemed to be a little moldy. Mind you I'm not sure as it was my first year of sowing them as a friend sown them last year. Will they still grow?

Temperature is the key to germinating tom seeds. They need around 25C pretty constantly for germination, with the warmth coming where possible from underneath. Putting the container inside a plastic bag with the mouth left open helps, too. It creates a mini-greenhouse effect. It also, via condensation, looks after the moisture factor.
On top of a heater or coffee machine or something similar works well. Sunny window sills are okay until you lose the sun for the day and the temperature drops.
