A month ago I set 9 runner beans in 3" pots in the greenhouse, which is sited on a concrete base. 5 of them have grown to about 6" tall, the other 4 have broken through & started to grow but something has chewed them off at about 1". Nothing to be seen. Any ideas what it could be ?
Also the 1's that are doing well the roots have started to come out of the bottom of their pots, not yet pot bound. I presume it's to early to plant them out (I live in Rotherham) so should I transplant them into larger pots or will they be ok ?
Put down slug pellets and traps to deal with slugs, snails, voles and mice.
Probably mice. A few years back I had problems with mice felling my chilli plants at about that height. Latter they stripped a plant of most of its chillis over night. I followed the trail of half eaten chillis to their store and after a standoff dealt with them one by one. Never found their sombreros.
I think mice as well: had the same problem in my shed/greenhouse and investigated. Four mice have now been dispatched to the big cheese in the sky and no further damage to seeds or seedlings
