We had some lovely weather last week and my husband and I attacked the garden. The greenhouse is looking lovely and we had plans to really attack the veg plot this weekend. And it has rained nearly all week. I was feeling so motivated and excited about the garden and really enjoying the early start after being very ill and unable to do it for a couple of years and now feel the rug been pulled ;-(
I know over reacting and it still early in the season but what I really want to say is this page is alittle like theropy - chatting to like minded individuals with a wealth of knowledge so thanks guys and girls for making a little bit of sun even if it is indoors smiley - winkeye

Slow down Sarcass, it will all get done, what you need to do is bless the rain as it will make the ground nice and soft so you can dig it with ease, I would love some rain, my garden is like concrete at the moment, just plan what veg is going where then when you can get into the garden you will know exactly where everything needs to go, take it steady then you can enjoy the fruits of your labour.

    Rain

    Hi Sarcass,
if you're greenhouse is in order then that's one thing you can congratulate yourself on. With regard to the veg plot, as Monty says: it's better to be late rather than too early.
I remember when we got the keys to our house five years ago (my first garden, zero experience before that), was met by a jungle, and felt like crying I was so overwhelmed! With some help from brother-in-law, and steadly acquiring knowledge (a lot of it from here), I see it all so differently now.
I still get impatient at times, and feel totally lost at others, but, you're right, there is comfort to be found on these boards. Good luck! smiley - hug

I have only recently acquired a house with a garden and a passion for gardening, before that I barely noticed the weather. Now I am checking the forecast and my whole mood is affected by the weather. It is great to have found somewhere to discuss the highs and lows, much of which we have very little control over.

Hope next week is brighter for you. I would like a little rain .

I think a gardeners two main attributes is to be patient and resilient .
Still early in the Season yet, even in the South of the Country, with frosts still possible/probable. I got caught out quite badly last year and had to start again with runner beans ,flower seeds etc and the second sowings soon caught up.
Sort out your seed packets and establish a paper "master plan" and if you have satellite TV watch some old GW episodes!!!.smiley - biggrin
Good luck and best wishes for a healthy and productive 2011 season. smiley - ok

The weather will pick up,you will pick up and do what you can do, the thing I now understand about gardening is you can't fight the elements you have to work with them so when it rains on the day I want to mow the lawn I have a lie in and take my wife shopping.
    Cheer up there's always tomorrow

Oh for rain . I live near Kidderminster & we've had no more than a spit for weeks. My allotment is like a desert & I haven't got running water where I keep my horses & a 1000 litre tank has run dry since our last proper rain so I'm ferrying 50 litres a day down . Please rain

    Hi Sarcass,
I agree ref us gardening folk all sharing the lumps and bumps of our gardening life & i read with pride what your trying to do after being ill,

How about this for an idea, have you thought of having a poly tunnel?

The reason im asking this is because you can be under cover daily "every day" and you can do your veg etc and weeding as and when you like.

They are a very reasonable price these days and it may be just what you need?

    Hi,

Felt I had to reply as I saw your thread title was soooo like my screen name!!

I think we all feel down with it sometimes, and I agree its so nice to be able to share the lows, and of course the highs with everyone here!

Good luck with everything you are doing, you will get the opportunity to get back on track with it all, it may not seem like it sometimes, but it will happen!

I know personally I had everything getting on top of me recently and had to take a step back for a while, but now I am back and working my plot and enjoying it all again. (....and I could really do with some of that rain in Portsmouth, please! smiley - smiley )

Take it easy, hope it all works out soon, and best wishes xx
