I bought a Stewart electric propagator today, has anyone any useful hints tips and pointers on how it should be best used?

This is the first time I've used a propagator.

Didn't come with an instruction manual, but thanks for the useful advice anyway.

read the instruction manual so you don't kill your plants and come back whine that they all died.   A couple of tips from my experience with seeds

    1. Do not set temperatures too high 65F is adequate
    2. moisten trays when planting seeds.
3 when one third of seeds break through take them out of propagator
    4. follow seed packet instructions as normal.

    successful planting

    Hi hammerhead22:

Last month I got a Stewart electric like you there wasn't any instruction, so I put my seeds in some compost in little plastic containers because I wanted to sow different seeds tomatoes. cucumber, peppers and aubergine and I also put some news papers at the bottom of the tray.
There were some pictures on the outside of the box, it shows you can put the compost straight to the tray as well, I leave the little vent a little open and every morning I take the cover off and wipe it as is full of condensation, then I put the cover back.
When the seeds have germinated then I move it out of the propagator, in a cold room. I hope you can follow my instructions and happy gardening

I also use my propagator to get cuttings to root quicker. I have just put the pinched out bits off fuchsia plants I got in there and some osteospernum cuttings my mum sent me.Make sure the compost stays damp but not soaking; tip any excess water out of the base; remove any dying foliage when doing cuttings or mould will develop and could spread killing off your other cuttings too.
