I'm probably a bit late for this but I have bought some Charlotte seed pots today (online) so should hopefully be here by the end of this week,
I know you have to chit them first,
Can anyone tell me how long this takes?
Also my partner has just put together some small raised beds at the top of the garden as my allotment days are over sadly, at present the base of the bed is strimmed down nettles & a bit of grass! I have heard that pots are good for first year ground clearance but I'm not sure how to go about this, I have some topsoil arriving on friday to fill the beds
Any advice gratefully received
Sorry that should be charlotte not charotte!
I wouldnt bother chitting them. If they take 6 weeks minimum to chit then you are going to have your early potatoes pretty late. I would just plant them when they arrive (weather permitting)
Many thanks
I do remember seeing something on a tv programme once that planted chitted & unchitted potatoes, apparently there wasn't much between them in the end

Charlotte is a second early so there is no need to chit. Only need to chit earlies. Planted my Charlotte a fortnight ago and they are now up and running without chitting.
I grow Charlotte and try to chit them, but in 2 months they seem to grow only tiny tips of shoots. Nevertheless they seem to do fine. Bung 'em in now and they'll soon catch up now that the soil is warm.
Safely arrived in the post this morning all sporting a few 1/2 inch shoots!
Just waiting for the two tons of topsoil to arrive!!
A relaxing easter weekend NOT!
