Hi
This is my first venture into growing vegetables from seeds, and whilst everything is going well, something has been eating my spinach leaves.
I planted the seeds about 3 weeks ago, and they were growing really well until I checked them this morning. Whole leaves have been eaten. The spinach is growing in a container with netting on the top, as there have been previous problems with rodents and cats.
The netting was still in tack this morning, so I am not sure what could have got in.
Any help?
Miri
Sounds very much like Slugs or Snails to me. Its amazing where those little devils can get - have you put pelets around?
Check for slime trails on the top of the soil. Sounds like slugs or snails to me too.
No trail, and no trail leading up to the container. Whole leaves were eaten, rather than only parts of it. Add they seem to have been picked off to the root.
Mmmm. Unless someone in the family is slipping outside at night for a feed of greens, you'd think it has to be some sort of caterpillar. Or a small army of them. Is there any evidence - eggs, whatever - anywhere on the plants?
