I have access to fresh manure, that the horse owner collects out of the field and some from a stable. What is the best way to keep and how long do I need to keep this manure before I can use it on the allotment.

If you have space...pile it up and cover it over with plastic, if it's got starw/shavings in thats all good then use it when you winter dig in the bottom of the trench or as a mulch round the palnts in spring/summer.

This is only what I think other's may do other thing's...each to there own and all that.

    Hope that helped.

Yes, you'd need to age it at least six months from fresh before planting into it. If it's an ongoing offer from the stable, I'd delay taking it till autumn. You can dig it in then and it would be perfect by the following spring. The earlier you take delivery, the longer you have to store it, and if it's fresh - pong-o!
