I have a large bag full of mowings from the lawn which won't fit into the compost bin. Can I use these as a mulch for things such as strawberries, tomatoes and courgettes ? I've never used weedkiller on the lawn. Thanks in anticipation.
Yes but you may find lots of weed/grass seeds sprouting. Also, too thick a mulch could heat up and harm the stems of your plants. They actually reduce in size quite quickly on the heap if you cn actually get them on it.
I agree that a thick mulch of grass clippings may heat up too much. My compost bin is incredibly hot at the moment because of all the grass I've put in there.
