Hello,
Some one put a post on here about tomatoe blight and a link was put in has a reply, stating that by cutting lower branches off giving more air to circulate and to water in the morning rather than in the evening. Made me wonder if the same rules apply to potatoes?
Can you remove the lower branches so that when they are watered the spores can not spray up? Is it best to water in the morning rather than evening (mine are in pots)? and to try to not get the leaves wet?
It is just last year I got both types of blight and want to try to prevent it again this year.
Thank you
wendy
It's always best to water most veg in the morning. It lets the warmth of the day dry off any wet leaves. Watering at night, leaving leaves wet overnight, is a recipe for fungal problems.
Toms and potatoes have different growth habits so removing leaves isn't going to help. Besides, the spuds are effectively fed by the leaves. The best you can do is lift any leaves when you water. Or, if you feel inclined, you can use a fungicide.
