Anyone tried growing Strawberry spinach? (Also known as beet berries or strawberry sticks)
I have a pack of seeds on the way from moreveg.co.uk and looking forwad to finding out what its like!
Any thoughts??
Hi Youngandallotmenting,
Great young minds think alike!
I just got mine (also from moreveg) a couple of weeks ago. I can't tell you what they'll turn out like (or taste like) but the germination rates were excellent (all up within a couple of days, they were very fast) and I now have them with my yellow, white and red alpine strawberries started at the same time on the kitchen windowsill..
I hope they taste good, I'm very excited about them.
I grew these last year, and they were a bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. They looked great, all those juicy red berries, but they had absolutely no taste! I will grow them again, as they are easy to grow, but I will use the leaves as spinach and forget about the fruits.
I grew it 5 years ago believing the hype in the seed catalogue. Never again, the berries are just watery and tasteless as are the leaves. Be careful, it self seeds like crazy.
