We have just found a frog in our polytunnel. We had two last year and at the end of the summer I put them out in the field. Does anyone know if I should just let this one stay on it's own. There is a gap at the side of the door if it can find it. Would there be enough for a frog to eat - there seems to be plenty of spiders and there are slugs too. We have put a shallow tray of water in one of the beds.
What if I want to use (organic) slug pellets though?
Any advice anyone?
There used to be a powder you mixed with water then sprayed on the ground. This was called Fertosan. I think 'those who take care of us have put it out of the way in case we harm ourselves' !
There are other products that are similar and do not harm wildlife. H.T.H. Cheers, Tony
Thanks Tony
With a frog in your polytunnel you will have no need to use slug pellets. The frog will eat the slugs and will only stay as long as there is food there. I often find them in my greenhouse and compost bins but they are quite capable of going where they want to. One thing though I do always make sure that any empty flowerpots are stored upside down as if a frog jumps into one they often cannot jump out again.
Thanks Ellen.
I'll take it off your hands would love a frog save me fortune in organic slug pellets and salt.
would like ideas on how to attract them but unfortunalty dont live near water.
good luck with your friend
wendy
I had frogs in my previous garden, Wendy, and I didn`t live near water.
But I had a tiny "pond". Really, it was just a concrete trough about 1metre x 1metre. It was positioned at the bottom of the garden close to bushes.
Both frogs and birds used it.
They seem to like a garden that`s a bit on the wild side rather than being too tidy. So mine obviously suited them.
I had a frog in my greenhouse, but it croaked.
Lol!
I think mine's gone now anyway - the children have scared it off. They saw cuckoo spit on it's face, caught it and cleaned it! That was enough for it. Perhaps it will come back though.
The bottom of my garden, behind the polytunnel has long grass and old drainpipes lying alongside the wall. There is a shuck running behind the wall so this is where the frogs are coming from. I also don't let the dogs into this part of the garden as they have been known to catch frogs.
