i put in sweetcorn every year and i always have trouble with germination and its the same this year nothing is coming up i have tried them in a unheated greenhouse and outside as well, the seed is there but not moving does anyone know what i am doing wrong i sow two or three times and usually end up buying plants
I think sweetcorn needs heat. I did mine in the airing cupboard & they were up in 24 hours.
You might consider trying to germinate it on damp/wet kitchen roll. As soon as you see signs of life, pot it on carefully.
Get a small heated propagator (small one 8W £10.00 at B&Q) I got a bigger 18W Sankey of Ebay for £23 ish and I wish I had bought one years ago...
I germinted mine on damp kitchen paper in a pastic tub kept in the dark, excellent germination with only one or two seeds slow to show any growth, they were in a kitchen cupboard with very little heat.
Once they germinate plant them up, mine went into toliet rolls and I planted out the baby cobs this weekend.
i would like to thank all of you that told me about germinating sweetcorn on wet kitchin paper and putting in a dark place i have just potted a 100 per cent success after struggling for years
Result!!!!
