I am growing peas for the first time and have been picking them for just over a week. There are some more developing but few flowers now. Should I expect more flowers to form now that I have harvested, ie like beans. Also the leaves are starting to look pale should they be feed. I know they fix nitrogen in the soil so I assume they won't need any of that. These are in ground in the green house. Thanks
Dwarf or climbers? Dwarf varieties tend to produce one major crop. More will come but not in the same number. Climbers crop longer.
The pale leaves could be just ageing or early disease. They're prone to mildew and suchlike.
Sorry, I missed the green house mention. It could be getting too warm for them.
Thanks,
They are Feltham First, said to reach 60cm which they have. I don't know if they are climbers or dwalf. I am sure they hotter than ideal, but am unsure about feeding. I have some following outside but they are quite away behind.
Feltham first are dwarf peas. There the type that i grow. Just this sunday i noticed a couple of flowers appear. Dwarf peas do indeed come and come again. You never get just one crop, they will continue to produce flowers and then peas. Just like runner beans do.
Now i never use any artifical feed for my peas. As i grow them outside i always prepare the soil with green manure well in advance, so all the goodness is there for the peas to use directly in the soil. It works as the so called experts tell you dwarf peas grow between 2 - 3 feet, i'll get mine to 4 - 5 feet and a bumper crop as well.
Thanks dirtyrob, that is most helpful. Although those in the green house have given me a nice early crop, I expect those outside will be more productive in the long run. I will not feed them as you suggest.
